Plaintiffs file a Motion for Class Certification, asking the Court to allow the lawsuit to proceed on behalf of all students in CUSD who have experienced the neurobiological impacts of trauma and not been sufficiently helped by the District, not just those students who are named as individual plaintiffs.

Public Counsel and Irell & Manella LLP file a class action complaint on the behalf of a class of students and three teachers (“Plaintiffs”) against the Compton Unified School District (“CUSD”). The Complaint argues that CUSD discriminates against students who have been exposed to multiple traumatic events by failing to accommodate the neurobiological impacts of exposure to trauma on a young person’s ability to learn, often to the serious educational detriment of Compton students.
